October Recap and Walk-Up Winner!

HC_Oct-3Thanks to all who came to last night’s show! And special thanks to the folks who brought scrumptious potluck dishes; for the care and generosity you put in. Everything was delicious. Thanks to our featured and walk-up storytellers for bringing a diverse range of stories from their lives; from adventures into white rooms with magical keys, to moments that proved a belief there is no magic… from triumph over high school bullying through masked fiddler-on-the-roof dancing, to the same triumph through homemade Frankenstein costume-wearing. The stories were all different, and so was this show. Because we trust our tellers to select their own themes and stories, these nights vary widely and one is ever like another.

Thanks to everyone who made things run last night. Byron Roussin, Mary Cait Walthall, Molly Emmons, Javier Smith, Christie Grace, Andi Nelson and Ray Teresi. Thanks as always to Matthew Williamson for photos of the event, and for recording the stories.

Special thanks also to Marina Muze for gathering visual artists during the month to create works based on the stories they heard at the show. This month, she and Bill Alexander displayed wonderful pieces that were inspired by last month’s stories, and will show work inspired by this month’s stories next month. If you’d like to join in creating and exhibiting a visual piece inspired by a story, you can find Marina at marinamuze.com. We hope this project will bring good attention to any visual artists who’d like to participate, and that it grows to allow many people to inspire each other.

Here is one of the pieces shown last night, inspired by Owen Kalt’s September story of the Strangest Case he’d ever heard, drawn by Marina Muze…

Thank you all for making a delicious night. Many thanks also to Ranjit Souri for being an deft and gracious co-host! It was a pleasure to play with him.

October’s Audience Favorite Walk-up teller was Angelina Marie, with her Homemade Frankenstein story! Which means that costume is continuing to rack up the prizes for her throughout her lifetime… if only we could travel back in time and tell shy teenage Angie. :) We are very happy that she has kindly agreed to return to feature in November.

Join us on November 2nd for fresh stories, great features, delicious dishes, new artwork, and excellent company.

Here, Chicago on November 2nd
Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont
7:30 potluck // 8pm show
