Our July 6th Show

HC_June_2014-16Take a gander at the lovely people who are coming to tell you true stories on July 6th. These are folks who live bold, passionate and generous lives, and who–for all of their varying interests and experiences– share a common wish to make the world a better place through their efforts. The joy of any one of them alone is dazzling… together they may short-circuit the wiring in the building.

Read on about your storytellers, and then grab advanced tickets on the right. Here, Chicago tends to sell-out, and so we strongly recommend saving your seats ahead of time. Free tickets for those bringing a prepared dish for the potluck, are also available online!

3-years running, this show is a labor of love, meant to bring folks together with a variety of talents, knowledge, experiences and interests. We are a rare common ground for Chicagoans who want to meet and be inspired by those outside of their own creative, social and professional circles. For this reason, we invite you to bring your own favorite people and share them. Spread the word about the show, as some have lost track of us with the new name! We want everyone who’s ever loved Here’s the Story to know we are still Here. :)

Here are some folks who’ll be telling on the 6th:

nnamdiNnamdi Ngwe is a renowned Chicago improvisor, and a member of Chaos Theory, The Deltones and the Armando Diaz Experience at iO. He has featured on Funny or Die, and has been Jimmy Carane’s guest on Improv Nerd. Nnamdi is also a former professional soccer player, and has toured internationally. You may have seen him in print advertising or commercials for some of your favorite retailers, but what you may not know is that this gentleman is one of the most humble and supportive players in the improv community. If he isn’t performing in one of his many shows throughout the week, he may just stop into iO or The Playground or wherever to see who is performing and offer his support.

cgChristie Grace was born in Metro Manila, Philippines, and raised all over the islands. She spent the early part of her childhood as a missionary to small villages where she provided food and assisted with community immunization. Christie was studying Microbiology at the University of Texas at Austin when she was bitten by the comedy bug. Now that she is pursuing comedy, people are often surprised when she reveals having spent five years working as a specialist technician responsible for assembling and maintaining communications equipment at NASA’s Mission Control Center and for the International Space Station. She recently moved to Chicago to study improvisation and hopes to bridge science and comedy in her future endeavors.

erin and patchErin Johnson is an actress and improvisor who recently changed course to become a sailor and a clown working with sick and orphaned children. After performing with beloved Chicago sketch groups Long Pause and Stitched, and performing with Funny Bones Improv– a group dedicated to sharing the benefits of laughter with sick children and their families in health care facilities– Erin left for the high-seas. This past year, she became 2nd Mate on the three-masted Red Witch, and sailed the open ocean on a tall-ship during storm season from Gloucester, MA to St. Thomas, where she honed her nautical skills on ships fostering eco-tourism. Erin then flew to Morocco to study medical clowning with Patch Adams. She is currently seeking ways to sythesize her love of sailing, teaching, performing, and helping young people in need.

megan & timRiver Rising is comprised of the musical talents of Megan Deiger and Tim Hazen, whose voices tightly weave country and folk music over a backbone of bluesy sensibility. River Rising has played in and around Chicago at venues such as The Beat Kitchen, Bottom Lounge, Subterranean, and Uncommon Ground. The band has performed with fellow local bands as well as national touring artists. In addition to its strong presence in the Chicago music scene, River Rising is an active contributor to the local theater and storytelling communities. The band has performed sets at Here, Chicago, Real Talk Live, and The Bucket Show.

clarenceClarence Browley is last month’s Audience Favorite walk-up teller! He was born and raised in Chicago, and he hosts a show with his best friend Lily Be called Stoop Style Stories at Rosa’s Lounge every last Thursday of the month (which is a beautiful show, and you should go see it!). He’s an easy-going guy who likes to laugh, play video games, and read comics. He lives a mysterious life of magic and wonder… at least, that’s what he likes to say to keep people from knowing too much. If there is anything he wants you to know, he’ll tell you in his story. Clarence is the nicest grump you’ll ever know.
