Featured Tellers, Main Show

October 6th Recap, Recipes and Walk-up Winner!

SONY DSCThat show was frikking amazing. And I can say that because it isn’t me who makes it.  It is all of us, all of you. You fill the tables with ridiculously scrumptious, lovingly crafted creations. You FEED each other. You fill the stage with delectably delicious, nourishing stories… you feed each other. People who purchase tickets pay the rent for the theater that gives a dignified frame to the night, and has you all sitting in comfortable seats. Every one of you makes this happen.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m going on about, 100 of us just spent a Sunday night at Here’s the Story. It’s something Chicago has come to love over the last 2 1/2 years, and its something I love a lot, too. I spend many hours producing each month’s show, because it is really nice to be in a room full of humans who listen to each other, and delight in each other’s beauty and humor and courage. Nice, I tell you.

Tonight’s was magic. Our features Bobby Biedrzycki, Melissa Duprey, David Boyle and Erin Diamond took us all in to “risky” territory; places we might not all identify as familiar or comfortable, but with such humor and humanness and honesty, that we could relax enough to recognize those places ARE familiar and known. Specificity leads to universality. They rocked it.

Our walk-up tellers were full of grace. Every one of them took the stage with seemingly easy confidence, joy and courage.  I was amazed.  Sami, Shae, Aladeen, Josh, Jenn: who are you people and where did you come from!? Josh Berling was our winner! With a hilarious story about prioritizing snack freedom over learning.  We are so glad he will be featuring with us on November 3rd, to tell you a story and test his resolve not to get up for snacks.

Mary Cait Walthal shined as co-host last night.  She brought joy and found meaning in beautiful places, and held the show in a deft and caring way. Deep thanks to our Production Manager Brandie Madrid, photographer Matt Williamson, Molly Emmons and Jeremy Adler and Andrew Wang and Tina Arfaee for bringing you all safely into the house. Many thanks to Ray Teresi for recording the show.

Check back in the next couple days, as the PODCAST will be available soon!  Meanwhile, visit our Recipe Page to find scrumptous recipes from October 6th.  And enjoy these:
